  • Psychological Trauma Level 2 (Skilled) – Developing your trauma-skilled practice 4: Understanding the use of substances to cope with the impact of trauma



    Target Audience:

    This course is designed for anyone who has contact with people who may have been affected by traumatic events and/or substance use 

    The course is comprised of four units.  It includes a reflective journal to support learning and explores how substances can be a coping strategy for the impact of trauma, the self-medication hypothesis, the impact of stigma, and how to support recovery for people with multiple needs.

    Aim:

    The outcomes of this course are:

    1. To understand the prevalence and impact of trauma for people with a substance use problem

    2. To understand how substance use and trauma symptoms can impact each other

    3. To respect the resilience in people surviving by using coping behaviours available to them

    4. To develop your own collaborative trauma-informed approach

    5. To recognise the need for recovery pathways that accommodate multiple complex needs

     

    Assessment

    At the end of this course there will be a short assessment.   You need to score 80% to pass
