Target Audience:
This course is designed for anyone who has contact with people who may have been affected by traumatic events and/or substance use.
This module builds on previous level 2 learning and explores the complex relationship between psychological trauma and dementia
You should complete “Developing your trauma skilled practice 1: Understanding the impact of trauma and responding in a trauma-informed way” prior to undertaking this module.
Aim
The outcomes of this course are to:
- Realise the complex relationship between traumatic events and dementia, and understand the prevalence of trauma in people living with dementia.
- Recognise how previous, or current, experiences of trauma and adversity may be affecting people living with dementia.
- Understand how to respond to meet the needs of people living with dementia who have experienced trauma.
- Reduce the risk of re-traumatisation by taking a proactive approach to the application of principles of trauma informed practice.
- Understand the importance of self care when supporting people who may have been affected by trauma and adversity.
Assessment/Exam
At the end of this course there will be a short assessment. You need to score 80%.
