Optimising Outcomes for Autism
Introduction to the Optimising Outcomes for Autism E-Learning Resources
In 2014 NHS Education for Scotland (NES) created an Autism Training Framework called 'Optimising Outcomes: A framework for all staff working with people with Autism Spectrum Disorders, their families and carers.'
The framework details the knowledge and skills required at different levels within the health and social care workforce to achieve key outcomes for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
The 'levels' of training are incremental meaning that all personnel should firstly complete the Informed About Autism E-Learning Resource before continuing to more advanced levels of knowledge development.
What courses should you complete?
Autism Informed Practice Level 1 provides the essential knowledge required by ALL staff working in health and social care settings, including the individual's home.
Autism Skilled Practice Level 2 outlines the knowledge required by all staff who have direct and/or frequent contact with individuals on the spectrum or those who have a role with high impact on those individuals. Staff working at this level should have previously completed the Informed About Autism E-learning Resource (Level 1).
Autism Enhanced Practice Level 3 describes the level of knowledge required by staff who have more regular or intense contact with individuals on the spectrum. Their role may focus specifically on autism, they may provide specific interventions for autism or manage the care or services for individuals on the spectrum. Staff working at this level should have previously completed the Informed About Autism E-Learning Resource (Level 1) and the Autism Skilled E-Learning Resource (Level 2).
